Superstorm Sandy overwhelmed many beaches and dunes on Long Beach Island and in northern Ocean County, according to initial assessments.
The "intensity of breaches and overwash and erosion of dunes, beaches and damage to oceanfront property increased dramatically" from the Holgate natural area to the north, according to a report by the Coastal Research Center at Richard Stockton College of New Jersey in Galloway.
The Long Beach Island and northern Ocean County reports are very detailed and include graphics, as well as before and after photos.
